City DOT is planning traffic calming work in Mount Clare (and 3 other neighborhoods around it). Shayna Rose, the planner behind it, had a few of us out for a walk last November, and then took more feedback at the Southwest Partnership’s Vibrant Streets Committee meeting in February. I had put together a sample list of feature requests ahead of that meeting we went over at that months neighborhood meeting.
Here is the list that went to that meeting, and add your own requests in response here and we can point Shayna at this thread!
Bump Outs
- Wilkins Ave Roundabout
- Pratt + Stricker (Dan req)
- Stricker + Ramsay at Traci Atkins (Charlotte req)
- Calhoun + McHenry
Diagonal Parking (road diet)
- Ramsay St. Priority blocks at and around Traci Atkins
- Mount St - priority block before roundabout, 300 block
- McHenry St. Concerns about diagonal parking around the bar at Gilmor + Mchenry.
Speed Bumps
- Wilkins Ave Eastbound into the roundabout. We talked about this at the walk, and I think we had consensus this was the worst intersection?
- 300 S Woodyear Block (multiple residents requests)
- Ramsay St eastbound at Traci Atkins (if nothing else happens to it)
- Stricker St Southbound at Traci Atkins (if nothing else happens to it)
- McHenry St westbound at Stricker St (if nothing else happens to it)
- Calhoun St at the community garden
Active Mobility Lanes / Cycle Tracks (road diet)
- BMC bikeways planned facilities (Pratt, Carey, Fulton)
- Pratt would be on the south side with one travel lane removed and parking preserved. The bus stops would be done as floating stops.
- Carey would shift the lanes to the east, creating a parking lane for the first block to McHenry, and then retain its turn lanes past there and the parking before the northbound right turn lane that already exists.
- Fulton would use the same design as Pratt, removing a travel lane, but no bus stops are needed since no busses currently run on Fulton.
- Stricker St, connect 5 parks and 3 schools between Harlem Park and Pigtown incl Carroll Park. No bus conflicts.
Additonal Requests
- Raised crosswalks at the junction (Charlotte req)
- Pedestrian lead intervals at Fulton + Pratt and Fulton + Wilkins
- Reduce lane width on 300 S Woodyear and convert into one way - currently lane and a half.
